I am totally delighted that they chose a gluten free dessert, but do Canadians really go bonkers over Nanaimo Bars? I would have pegged them for being granola fanatics or something…ya know? This sweet treat must be specially designed for folks who enjoy eating straight...  The December 2009 Daring Bakers’ challenge was brought to you by Anna of Very Small Anna and Y of Lemonpi. They chose to challenge Daring Bakers’ everywhere to bake and assemble a gingerbread house from scratch. They chose recipes from Good Housekeeping and from The Great Scandinavian Baking Book as the challenge recipes. Well. This...  I think I’ve pinpointed why the French feel nauseated from even looking at us Americans. Maybe because we botch every single one of their recipes? Even when Evan and I make homemade french fries we add exotic spices like cayenne and chili powder. Blasphemy! I tried tried tried to pull these macarons off with grace...  I guess you could call me a conscious baker. I am a total health nut and bit of a freak when it comes to nutrition. So, whenever I bake, I try to use as many “whole” ingredients as possible. As in: whole wheat, spelt, oats, flax, fruit, honey. This at least helps me convince myself...  Well, this was my first Daring Baker’s Challenge ever! If ya’ll are new to the Daring Kitchen…then let me fill you in. Once a month a baking and/or cooking challenge is assigned, but the outcome cannot be revealed until a certain day…and today is that day! yay!
